I had always wondered about getting a laser- literally for years. I have every other craft machine there is! Silhouette Cameo, Sizzix, Minc foil laminator, mold press, if you can think it I probably have one. I really enjoy creating and I had considered a laser a couple of times but honestly was a little scared of them. They seem frightening compared other craft machines and I was scared I’d hurt my eyes or start a fire!
Despite my fears I jumped in after seeing a friend of friend’s work and I’m so glad I did. Within just an hour I was already making. If you can cut vinyl you really will take to a laser as so much of the software and working with the files is the same concept.
What are some items I can engrave on a diode laser?
- Timber which really opens up possibilities. Engrave trays, wooden boards or boxes for example. Pencils, coasters, jewellery, and more, plus you can cut timber and create your very own designs
- Metal drink bottles- plain stainless steel or the powder coated Yeti, Stanley or Frank Green branded drink bottles so no more losing them!
- Fabrics such as denim, felt and blankets. Leather and selected laser-safe faux leather
- Paper and Card
- Selected acrylic such as black and dark colours, this is due to the diode laser being a blue laser.
The laser sits in so well with other craft machines and means you really can make even more items. The laser was not as scary as I first thought. I feel I wasted years and could have been creating for so much longer than I have.
I will be doing a number of tutorials so stay tuned and follow some of the projects I’ve made and see if a laser is also your heart’s desire!
